I know most people who want to extend their home or make major home improvements have always found the aspect of applying for planning permission a daunting one. With the ever ending news of the credit crunch (don’t get me started!) people are struggling to move and look for alternative ways to improve the space they a craving.

It is estimated that over 5 million people are looking to have major work done on their homes. With the planning rules in England now changing as from the beginning of Oct 08 you won’t need permission to convert your loft or add a rear extension. These new rules will make the process of improving you home easier; however as a rule it’s always worth contacting your local council www.planning.southglos.gov.uk or www.bristol.gov.uk as it could involve some building regulations.

Before you go ahead with any home improvements did you know that you are supposed to tell your home insurer before starting work, this is to ensure you home is adequately insured for the full amount and heaven forbids anything happens could invalidate you insurance if you make a claim and they are not aware of your plans.

To obtain more information please contact your local council directly.

If this hasn’t put you off I do know a good architect - happy planning!
